The secret of Inviting Happiness

Did you know that words have energy and using them in a specific way can have far reaching effects on your health and life?

Who would have thought that something as simple as words could have any effect on anything at all.

As part of the art of Reiki, practitioners are taught the “secret technique of inviting happiness, spiritual medicine for all diseases” which comes in the form of words created by Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. He composed the Gokai or 5 principles after observing that people who had overcome diseases, came back repeatedly with new health problems.

By reciting these words 3 times morning and evening with hands in prayer position, they can enjoy more lasting effects of their treatments.

Just for today:

  • Do not be angry

  • Do not be worried

  • Be grateful

  • Do your duties fully

  • Be kind to others

By starting each of the principles with “Just for today” helps us to live in the moment and also to makes these changes achievable. It is easier to try to work towards these changes a day at a time.

“Do not be angry” – is encouraging us, at first to acknowledge that we are angry and why, but to try our best to find ways of letting it go as quickly as possible so that we are not harming ourselves and others by staying there.

Do not be worried”- is encouraging us to have faith that everything will be ok. We know from experience that worrying does not help any situation and that it is a waste of energy. It also produces toxins in the body, which are harmful to our system. By finding ways to worry less we help ourselves, and others and create a beneficial energy around us to bring less things into our lives to worry about.

“Be grateful” to be grateful, and feel it inside is life changing. Try listing even the very small things you are thankful for such as the air we breathe and fresh water to drink. When you do this exercise and really feel it, you start to feel happier and at peace with the world.

“Do your duties fully”- It is so much easier to do whatever your day requires in a happy frame of mind, getting on with the task in hand and looking for ways to enjoy it rather than complaining. The other meaning for this is to develop yourself and learn and evolve, by doing so you will be happier and enjoy your life more. This will have a beneficial effect on everyone and everything around you.

“Be kind to others” – being kind to others feels really good and also boosts serotonin levels in our brains. This also has an effect on others to be kind to someone as well, which creates a wonderful generation of positive energy.

Usui sensei gave us the 5 principles so that we can improve ourselves and our lives by shedding unnecessary baggage we have collected in life layer by layer, to reveal ourselves as we truly are.

Other people who have shown us a similar ways to create or demonstrate the fact that words have energy are:

Masaru Emoto and his work with water crystals, demonstrating the effect words have on water.

Louise Hay – using affirmations to heal.

Mike Dooley – “thoughts become things, choose the good ones “

Florence Scovel Shinn – “Your word is your wand, filled with magic and power.
